Millet Consumption Reduces Cholesterol, Cuts Risk of Hyperlipidaemia and Obesity
Millet is an ancient grain that is widely grown around the world as cereal crops or grains for human food and as fodder. It is nutritious and provides considerable amounts of health benefits. It contains numerous phytochemicals, mainly phenolic compounds, which can be useful in the management of metabolic disorders such as diabetes, cancer, and cardiovascular diseases. A new systematic review and meta-analysis of data from 12 studies has associated consuming millet with improved levels of both LDL and HDL cholesterol and a lower BMI. Consumption of millet is beneficial in reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
