Grape (Vitis)

Grape belongs to genus Vitis which comprises about 60 to 80 species of vining plants. The principal species from which the cultivated grape has been derived is Vitis vinifera. Grapes are a non-climacteric type of fruit, generally occurring in clusters. They are found in various colors, including green, red, black, yellow, and pink.

1. Eye Health

Study demonstrated that grape-enriched diet significantly preserved retinal structure and function in mice exposed to retinal oxidative stress compared with animals on the control diet. Retinal thickness and photoreceptor layer thickness were not reduced by oxidative stress in mice on the grape-supplemented diet, indicating significantly higher photoreceptor survival after injury than mice on the control diet.
