Black Tongkat Ali (Polyalthia bullata)

Black Tongkat Ali with its scientific name Polyalthia Bullata, belongs to Annoneceae family. P. bullata is frequently referred to as Tongkat Ali Hitam or Pasak Bumi Hitam due to the deeper hue of its root and bark. It is found along the rivers in the lowland forest of Peninsular Malaysia. Polyalthia bullata has a small root at 2-3 cm in diameter, which is a significantly smallers diameter than yellow Tongkat Ali. The root of the plant has been used in folk medicine to increase sexual desire and as a general tonic for males.
