Coconut (Cocos nucifera L.)
Coconuts grow in tropical climates on trees scientifically known as Cocos nucifera. Coconut water is a slightly sweet liquid with a subtle, nutty flavor obtained from the endosperm of coconuts.
Compositionally, it is made of about 96% water and 6% solids. The major components of the solids in coconut water are soluble sugars, proteins and minerals with relatively high potassium content and low sodium content. Phytochemical compositions of coconut water have shown to contain phenolic compounds, flavonoids, tannins and phytates
Catechin and salicylic acid are the major phenolic compounds found in the water

2. Antioxidant
Study showed that coconut water extract possesses antioxidant properties. The level of free radical scavengers, Reduced Glutathione (GSH) and Vitamin C showed a significant increase in test group in comparison with the control group. GSH and Vitamin C can neutralize free radicals and protect cells from damage caused by oxidative stress.
