Cats Whiskers (Orthosiphon aristatus / Orthosiphon stamineus) is a medicinal herb found mainly throughout southern China, the Indian Subcontinent, South East Asia and tropical Queensland. It is known as Kumis Kucing in Indonesia and Misai Kucing in Malaysia. The plant has white or purple color flowers giving the impression of cat’s whiskers. It has lots of leaves and the leaves are widely used for herbal teas (Java Tea) in South-East Asia.
Traditionally, the infusion of dried leaves is used for treating rheumatic pain and coughs. The fresh leaves are used to prepare strong decoction for treating a wide variety of ailments, such as gout, renal inflammation, kidney stones, and hypertension due to the diuretic action. It is also consumed as general tonic for detoxification and relieving tiredness.
